Web3 networking in Dubai: a practical guide

Dubai has a busy calendar of Web3, crypto and startup networking events, many of them free meetups announced on Luma. This guide explains where to find them, how to judge an organiser and an agenda, which common scams to watch for, and how to check whether a company offering crypto services appears in an official UAE register.

Where to find events

  • Luma calendars. Many organisers publish recurring meetups as Luma calendars that you can follow. EcoX, for example, runs a public calendar for its Dubai meetups.[1] Our EcoX events archive shows what such a calendar contains over two years.
  • Conference side events. Large conferences attract mixers and "roadshow" events in the weeks around them. Some are invite-only, such as an EcoX mixer listed by World Token Summit on the road to its 2026 festival.[4]
  • Community channels. Telegram groups and LinkedIn pages often repost events. Treat reposts as leads and open the original listing before you register.

How to judge an organiser

  • Open the host profiles on the listing. Check whether the same people appear on earlier events and on their own profiles.
  • Separate self-descriptions from confirmation. Titles such as "founder" or claims about the number of cities are usually written by the organiser. Look for the event on an independent organiser's or venue's page.
  • Check how long the calendar has been active and whether past events have consistent venues and formats.
  • Prefer public venues. Be cautious when the address is revealed only after approval and you cannot verify the host.
  • Be wary of listings that exist only as a sign-up form with no organiser history.

Reading an agenda

A typical meetup format is networking, a short presentation, a fireside chat with guests and open networking.[2] Some events add short open-mic pitch slots in which guests present their own projects.[3] Pitch slots and sponsored talks are normal at networking events, but they are promotion. A speaker's presence at a meetup is not an endorsement by the organiser or the venue, and an event listing is not proof that a project is legitimate.

Staying safe

  • Never share a seed phrase, recovery phrase or private key, and never type one into a website someone sends you.
  • Do not scan QR codes that ask you to connect or "verify" a wallet at an event.
  • Treat guaranteed returns, fixed daily yields and "last chance" presales as warning signs.
  • Assume a link shared after an event may be a referral link that pays the sender. Look up the service yourself instead of following it.
  • Move investment conversations out of private chats and check the company in the registers below before sending money.
  • Keep a record of who introduced an offer and when.

Checking crypto providers in official UAE registers

Different authorities cover different parts of the UAE. A company's own claim to be "licensed" is not enough. Search for its exact legal name in the register that applies to it:

AuthorityWhat its register showsRegister
Virtual Assets Regulatory Authority (VARA), Dubai Virtual asset service providers that are fully licensed or hold an In-Principle Approval, with licence type, activities, issue date and status. Holders of an In-Principle Approval may not start operations or serve clients until they receive a full licence.[5] VARA public register
Dubai Financial Services Authority (DFSA), regulator of the Dubai International Financial Centre Firms with their reference numbers and firm types.[6] DFSA public register
Financial Services Regulatory Authority (FSRA), Abu Dhabi Global Market Firms, individuals and other bodies that are, or have been, approved by the FSRA.[7] FSRA public register
Capital Market Authority (CMA), federal securities regulator, formerly at sca.gov.ae Federal securities regulation. VARA's register also shows a CMA registration number for each licensed provider.[8] CMA website

Registers can lag behind decisions, and the FSRA itself notes that it cannot guarantee the accuracy of its register.[7] If a company is not listed, or the licence does not cover the service being offered, ask the company to explain before you go further. Quick checklist

  1. Find the original listing and open the host profiles.
  2. Look for the event or organiser on at least one independent page.
  3. Read the agenda and note which slots are pitches or sponsored.
  4. Never share wallet secrets; do not scan wallet QR codes.
  5. Check any crypto service in the register of the authority that covers it.
